Origins
The Python was originally found in Southern and South east Asia including Eastern India, Nepal, Western Bhutan, South East Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Northern Malaysia, Southern China, and in Indonesia.
Where They Are Now and Preferred Habitat
They have become an invasive species in the Everglades and some other parts of Florida. Since they have come here the sighting of Raccoon's and Opossums have decrease by 99%. Fox and Rabbits have completely disappeared from the habitat. The pythons sometimes end up in the wild because people buy them and after two or three years they realize it is too big and they release it into the wild. Also, during Hurricane Andrew a python breeding facility was destroyed and all the pythons were released into the wild, They have done studies about global warming and they have found out that these pythons could migrate to almost one third of the continental United States.
The Burmese Python generally like living in areas with temperature ranges of 85-88°F, which is why they are extremely popular in the Southeast of America. They generally like to be around water, so they are very common in the Everglades and more swampy areas of the South, but they are also found in forests and more woodsy areas. Also, they prefer habitats that tend to have more rainfall, because they are native to countries around India and Southeast Asia, which have a lot of rain fall.
